Each week, we ask a different board member and lead volunteer the same five questions to learn more about them and how they became involved with rescue and AARF. Today’s spotlight is on AARF Foster Coordinator Jan LaFerriere!
What was your first pet? I had two – Shadow, a black lab, and Beety, a guinea pig.
How did you get involved in rescue? I started with SallyAnn Jennings and her rescue, Recycled Love, and a golden retriever mix named Alex. Still can’t remember how that happened! Through Sally I met Arika Pevenstein and took in my second rescue dog, Buddy, who was adopted by my mom over five years ago.
What drew you to AARF? Its passion for animals and my relationship with both Sally and Arika…true rescue rockstars!
What’s your favorite thing about AARF? Our awesome team and accomplishments to date. We have so many talents within the organization – everyone involved shares our mission and does whatever it takes to save/rescue and rehome our four-legged friends. AARF is truly my extended family. 🙂
Where do you want to see AARF go? Into financial bliss! It would be amazing to be able to take in medically compromised animals without a price tag attached. I also dream of having a physical plant with a large piece of property, a barn for our animals, AND a loft for us to be able to have weekends to hang out. It would be great for adoption events as well. I think it would also be great to place our older animals with the elderly. The benefits are proven to improve quality of life and there are so many older animals that would greatly love a home and companionship.
